£25 Top up goes awry

Today I had one more example as to why one should NEVER get a contract mobile phone unless someone else is paying for it.

On Tuesday I ‘topped up’ my Three SIM with £25 credit. I then immediately ‘converted’ it into an All-In_One top up as I have done many times before (except with the lower £15 top up). My £25 all-in-one should have given me 500 minutes, 3,000 texts and All-You-Can-Eat data allowance for the phone.

Today I ran out of credit. How come? Because my conversion had not gone through; or rather it told me it had - I distinctly remember “Your All-In-One has been applied” - but had not ‘gone through’ or been processed. Hence just two days later and after a few minutes of calls at 50p a minute or whatever the usual rate is and internet usage chewing up the £, my credit was just 5p.

The usual call to India resolved nothing.

I’m sorry, Sir, I can see that you normally convert to an All-In-One but on this occasion you did not

Er, but yes I did. Managers ‘on their way to lunch’ resolved nothing

There’s nothing we can do as you have used up all your credit.

Of course they could have recognised the error and done something.

This is not the first run-in with Three. They are an innovative company and indeed broke with the pack offering truly unlimited data for phones but never ever ever EVER get a contract with these people.
I have had experience of two previous contracts and will never do do again. One was for a dongle that didn’t work in my postcode for 3 months; endless phone calls and shenanigans from Three I have journaled elsewhere meant I was paying for nothing - an internet dongle that provided no internet. It was probably a mast issue that they eventually fixed but they lied about everything; sending out an engineer, fixing the dongle itself (twice), settings on my laptop, etc etc etc .
The beauty about PAYG is that they get to rip you off. Once. And then you can go elsewhere.
Why would anyone want to saddle themselves with 24 months of financial commitment with such a shaky company (I get atrocious Three coverage in my house). Vodafone are another comapany which has proven itself to be totally untrustworthy when it comes to CON-tracts.
