Germination and leaf humus test day one 10/5/2010

The local lawn care business in my town is offering leaf humus. I had got 2 ,1/2 pound sample bags at the county fair this year. I decided to see how well that would work as a seed starting mix. With that in mind I also decided to test the germination rate of 25 tomato seeds. If it works and tomato sprouts show with in 5 to 7 days, I’ll move on to see how pepper seeds hot and sweet will fair.
The website states: “It has a nearly neutral PH from 6.9 - 7.2 which is perfect, (except for acid loving plants.)”

After the seed germination test, I will go out and clip an end off a tomato plant, and see if the clipped end will root out in the humus like it would in a jar of water.
